The world of daily driver cars for us mere mortals can be a dreary place, a sea of gray eco-powered SUV’s where people merely exist rather than enjoy what they are driving. The wagon (or estate depending on which part of the world you’re from) has been a type of car that has been in a slight decline in recent years.

Think back to the super-cool wagons of old, the Subaru Impreza Wagon, the BMW E39 Touring and the Audi S4 B5 model. All are utterly of these are magnificent examples of great wagons.

The wagon finds itself being superseded by medium SUV’s in every which way or form as UK car buyers flock to them like a herd of zombies shuffling and moaning their way towards a living person.

Now praise the car lords as a pair of saviors have arrived, the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer and the BMW 5-Series Touring are here to save us all from the dreariness.

The BMW 5-Series Touring

Back in October 2016, BMW announced the all-new 5-Series (it was announced to me in a sealed room and I couldn’t tell anyone) saloon to the world. The saloon is such a good car BMW even made a short film about it in the form of ‘The Escape’.

Now, BMW’s announced a touring version of its mid-sized luxury saloon and it looks fantastic.

The Touring model features a similar engine line-up to its lesser spaced sibling from the usual diesel rep-mobile 520d, all the way to the fire breathing 540i which gives you 340bhp and 0-60mph in a Labrador upsetting 5.1 seconds.

Let’s be honest here the 5-Series saloon is a very good looking car, in Touring form though it just becomes even better looking. I mean it has a fold out rear window so you can access the boot, why this is a feature I have no idea, it’s still as cool as hell, though.

Also, apologies to anyone that lives in the USA, you cannot have the Touring version, sorry. Not my choice but BMW have decided that you only get the saloon. Don’t worry Americans, its only 25 years and you can import one.

Now nice people at BMW, can we please please have an M5 Touring version, you will make us very happy.

The Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer

When one stunning looking wagon comes along comes another one. The Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer is set to make its official public bow at the 2017 Geneva Motor show.

Finally, Vauxhall have given has a stunning looking you’d actually want to drive, the angular curves and bodywork design on this wagon just give it a stunning presence, I mean, just look at it.

No official details on powertrains yet, but you can expect the usual mix of petrol and diesel motors coupled to front-wheel drive and a higher end four-wheel drive model.

The previous generation Insignia Tourer was not really much to look at, let alone interesting to drive, here’s to hoping Vauxhall have fixed it with this new generation model. If you live in the USA then you won’t have to wait 25 years for this one as it will be available with the wheel on the wrong side in your country. The only downside is that you will have to buy it with a Buick badge.

So there you have it, two super cool Wagons are about to give you an incentive to have many children or possibly buy many dogs, or both.

What do you all think?……….
