If your anything like me then you (old for example) then you will remember the glorious Need for Speed games of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, NFS Hot pursuit 2 & NFS Porsche unleashed were two great examples of how great these games were at their peak.

Given that recent NFS games have failed to live up to the high standards set by the earlier titles (The Run for example, Urg) in the franchise publisher Electronic Arts decided to put NFS in the workshop for a refit for last year by not releasing the yearly update in November 2014.

Yesterday however good news for all NFS fans was announced EA and Ghost Games revealed Need for Speed, a full reboot of the franchise. The game is scheduled for release in later in 2015 for Origin on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Further informatio on the game will be revealed during the EA press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 on June 15, 2015. EA revealed this teaser trailer:

The official press release describes the new installment “[the 2015 Need for Speed reboot] delivers on what the fans want, and what Need for Speed stands for – deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game.

As with most games announced in recent months, a full reveal is being saved for upcoming 2015 E3 conference. All that is confirmed is that Need For Speed is coming from Ghost Games this later this year.

Judging by the screen shots revealed yesterday and the preview trailer this will hopefully be a return to prominence for what was once a great franchise that was leading the way rather than trailing in last place.
