Further tales of woe from Jalopnik readers, I cringe in horror at some of them as its amazing how people didn’t die due to the sheer ineptitude of the mechanics involved.
My own personal tale of woeful ness was in relation to a Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 that I owned back in the era known as the 1990’s.
Turns out my mechanic though a gasket on a sump pan was optional and not essential!. This ended quickly with a stricken 205 GTi by the side of the M1 with oil just about everywhere on the underside of the car and all over several hot items underneath (nice and safe… Not!.). The rear screen was cover in oil. The helpful mechanic in question had also disconnected the oil pressure monitor, what a shithead!
The GTi was fixed by a different capable mechanic in the end.
