Volvo was amongst the first to give us a toughened version of a standard road car in the form of their Cross Country model –range, this range had a simple strategy, take the standard car meant for city dwelling and make it cross country tough. Part of all this toughness was the lifted ride height, the bulkier bumper set-up complete with skid plates strong enough to see off anything you may encounter whilst out in the countryside doing the things that people do in the countryside, whatever that is……..
Truth is that most Cross Country owners likely never did any off-roading whatsoever, I don’t care; the fact is Volvo took their standard car and made it look a bit more ready for the end of the world.
Now, Volvo has given the cross country treatment to its gorgeous V90, welcome to the V90 Cross Country, go on, admit it, you want one.
I know in this day and age SUV’s are the favourite for high riders, but honestly, why would you choose any of them over this V90, it’s got a total of 60mm additional ride height which gives you a whopping 8.2 inches of ground clearance, That’s enough to clear most things such as small animals and possibly small rocks should the need arise.
The V90 Cross Country is based on the standard V90 Wagon which is in turn based on the excellent XC90 SUV, this is a good thing. Also featured on this car is a re-worked electronic chassis to help it handle the bumps, an eight-speed automatic box and air suspension at the rear for coping with those heavier loads.
So, are you sure you want that SUV or do want possibly the greatest looking lifted wagon ever made?
