I hope you’re sitting down as you read this, be prepared to be very sad. There is no easy was to say this but the final Vauxhall VXR8 has been revealed. This will be the model’s last version as it will be killed off after this swansong run out model.
Dubbed the VXR8 GTS-R, it’s a unique model to the UK, and it’s the most powerful production car Vauxhall has ever produced. That monstrous 6.2-litre supercharged V8 now produces 587bhp; this additional 19bhp power bump is thanks to the addition of a remap and a high-flow air filter.
The VXR8 GTS-R also gets a limited-slip diff at the back to help you keep all that monster power in check, you also get 410mm brake discs at the front with upgraded six-piston calipers to aid stopping from all the resulting speed. This model is fitted with 20-inch wheels with a 10-inch wide profile on the rear to ensure you get as much rubber to the road as possible.
Vauxhall has shut down its Australian sibling company, Holden, with this closure, comes the sad demise of the Commodore and in turn the UK version of the car. The Aussies also got their own goodbye present in the form of the GTSR W1 which has even more power with 636bhp.
It makes us sad that Vauxhall is killing off the VXR8, in a time where downsizing is prolific; the big bruiser of a V8 was one in the eye for the green establishment.
Want one? You’d better be quick as only 15 examples will be coming to the UK priced at £74,500. The VXR8 GTS-R will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 29.
A very sad day for car fans everywhere, long live the Vauxhall VXR8, thanks for the memories.
