Every carmaker seems to be getting in on the SUV act these days; Porsche started it all with the Cayenne. Bentley has introduced the Bentayga with the likes of Maserati and Jaguar following suit by adding SUV models to their luxury lineups.
Some purists will say that a prestigious car maker should not stray from their heritage by ruining their long history by introducing such a model to their line-up. In the real world, however, it’s simply a numbers game. If a rival carmaker is gaining sales because of a model they don’t offer, chances are they will offer one just to stay competitive.
Rolls-Royce is one of the few holdouts in this world by only offering luxury cars in varying body styles, until now that is.
Welcome to the first sneak peek of the Rolls Royce SUV prototype, code named ‘Cullinan’, these pictures show the SUV covered in camouflage featuring the trademark and much-loved Rolls front grille. A couple of things I have noticed, it’s srather square angled shape and it looks to be absolutely massive.
The Rolls-Royce SUV will be the first ever car in the maker’s history to feature four-wheel drive, it will also feature weight-saving tech in its construction by utilizing aluminum.
As this is a prototype you can expect changes to be made before it makes production in 2018. So is this is a ruination of the bloodline or a car that will help Rolls-Royce keep its place as one of the leading car-makers in the world, we will have to wait until 2018 to find out. Either way expect it to be very quick, very quiet and very Rolls-Royce like throughout.
