As inevitable as the fact that the sun will rise in the morning, Porsche was always going to set a new time at the Nurburgring in its revised 911 GT3. Question is, how much quicker would it be?

Not Just Quick But GT3 Quick

Very quick is the answer, in fact amazingly quick, the new GT3 lapped the green hell posting a time of 7 Minutes 12.7 seconds, this is an astonishing 12.3 seconds quicker than the old model.

The brave soul behind the wheel for this lap is Porsche test driver Lars Kern, the GT3 chosen for the lap is a standard trim car equipped with the PDK gearbox, optional rear wheel steering and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 2s.

The difference between the outgoing GT3 and the all-new model is staggering, 12.3 seconds is a lifetime in lap times, in a race between the two models over ten laps the old car would finish around two minutes behind the new model.

A Daily Driver That’s A Track Weapon

The man in charge of Porsche’s GT division Andreas Preuninger stated that “A few years ago lap times like this could only ever be achieved by thoroughbred racing cars with slick tires. The new GT3 can now achieve this with comparatively modest power, but is still fully suited to everyday use.”

By all accounts, the new GT3 appears to be a honed track ready weapon that is happy being driven daily. Porsche also released a video clip of the GT3 in action at the ‘ring, the noise the 4.0-litre motor makes at full chat is mesmerizing, to say the least.
