Super tuners Hennessey recently set a new bar for performance modifications of the new 2015 Ford Mustang GT hitting limiter at a mere 195 mph with a mighty 717 bhp. Not to be defeated Hennessey Performance had only one thing they wanted to achieve, the sacred milestone of 200mph.
Crazily enough the 717 horsepower provided by the tuner’s HPE700 kit wasn’t enough, however the limitation seemed to be gearing ratios and not a lack of horsepower.
In order to correct this they built the even more insane HPE750 Supercharged Mustang, producing a mere 774 bhp and 648 lb-ft of torque which is a lot when you see the numbers this thing can produce.
Hennessey claim that this modified Muatang GT will do zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds, with aquarter-mile in 10.9 at 133 mph which is pretty quick to be honest.
All that extra motivation comes from a 2.9-liter supercharger; upgraded intake, fuel system, and computer tuning; and, of course, all the Hennessey and HPE750 badging you’ll need to set your car apart from your neighbor’s stock GT. The HPE750 runs the same 3.15:1 differential gear as the example that maxed out at 195 mph, but bumping the redline up by 500 (now up to 7700 rpm) helped this Mustang pass the 200-mph barrier, according to John Hennessey.
All of this work resulted in an all new and shiny top speed of 207.9 mph total, Hennessey put Brian Smith in charge of delivering this huge top speed run which was achieved at the 8.5 mile oval track based at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Texas.
Lets face it Mustang tuners are always going to go where Ford’s legal team simply won’t let them venture. This may be the 1st 200 mph Mustang and it will be interesting to see the tuners taking speed records from each other in the coming years.
