With BMW’s reveal of the new 8-Series, we were hoping that an M version would follow quickly. Now, BMW has fulfilled our hopes and dreams by revealing the new M8 Coupe prototype.
Not only are we going to get an actual 8-Series wearing an M Division badge, BMW also announced a GTE racing version as part of its assault on 24 hour racing. The M8 GTE will debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2018 before cementing BMW’s comeback at the Le Mans 24 Hour race.
BMW didn’t give us any further information about the M8, so instead I’ll tell you what could happen, expect the 4.4-litre twin-turbo motor as revealed in the new 4WD M5, power output should be 600bhp plus reaching the wheels via the new 8-Speed automatic gearbox. I’d also wager that the 4WD system will also arrive as well, given that the 5, 7 and 8 series are based on the same platform it would make sense.
Are you excited to see the M8? Will it set the new benchmark for the super-coupe?
