The Bentley Bentayga is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious SUV’s you can buy right now. It’s huge and an opulent place to be: as standard you get the whopping W12 6.0 litre motor but now there is another way.

Prepare yourself; Bentley has gone to the dark side by adding a diesel motor to the range, more precisely a 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine. The new version is obviously called the Bentley Bentayga Diesel and it’s the companies first ever smoker since it was founded  in 1919. So, was it worth the 97-year wait?  The motor is taken straight out of the monstrous Audi SQ7, it’s equipped with a pair of gas-fed turbochargers which is helped along by an electric supercharger which deals with the boost lower in the rev-range.

All of the technological know-how means that the diesel Bentayga has a planet shifting 664Ib-ft of torque which is exactly the same number the W12 produces. The V8 diesel motor produces a considerable 429bhp which is more than enough to get you from 0-60 in a swift 4.8 seconds, top speed is 168mph which makes the diesel Bentayga the fastest production diesel SUV in the world.

The diesel Bentayga is also a little kinder to the environment puffing out only 210g/km of CO2 and has an official mpg of 35.8 which is vastly better than the W12 model which gets a mere 21.6mpg.

If you want one and if your rich but frugal you will, prices start at £135,800 which also makes it the cheapest Bentayga you can buy which is not a startling fact as there are only two models. Deliveries will start in Europe in early 2017.
